You have nothing interesting to write about.
Blogging about writing is as interesting as the non-zombie scenes in “The Walking Dead” – enough with the chit-chat, get to the gore! Someone who blogs about the show will get more attention than someone ranting about the misuse of apostrophes (which I have done, thank you very much).
You would rather be writing your novel.
Blog posts are backed by facts, issues, and other realistic stuff that bores creatives. More often than not, you probably find your mind wandering off in search of your next dramatic plot point, not how to define a plot point to a writing newbie.
You run out of stuff to say.
There is only so much a writer can blog about writing that hasn’t already been done by more popular writers. Also, solving your writer’s block by blogging about writer’s block is becoming a cliché amongst writers. You might as well start off a blog post with, “It was a dark and stormy night.”
No one cares about your blog, and no one ever will.
Bloggers are supposed to write what they know, and unless you’re on a best-seller’s list, no one cares about another writer’s tips. You pour your heart, sweat and tears into every blog you post, and yet the comments section remains empty. You follow advice from more successful bloggers (build an e-mail list; connect on social media; make friends you don’t know). Building a following is hard when no one cares about your existence.
YOU don’t care about blogs, and never will.
You want to be a writer, and the professionals tell you the best way to put yourself out there is to blog. But… you don’t read blogs. You don’t follow anyone else. You scroll down page after page of what appears to be polished ranting, and then you go to Facebook and watch a cat video. Creating a blog without reading others is a bit like wanting to become a surgeon without going through medical school. You can’t just show up in an operating room and be like, “Someone hand me the knife-thingy. Let’s cut this dude up… oh, my, lordy, that’s a lot of blood!”
What do you hate about blogs?
